Latest News: US Troops Going Back From Iraq And Afghanistan

There is a reduction in Iraq - From about 5,200 Troops to about 3,000

The big news is coming from Washington. The US troops will pull thousands of soldiers out of both Iraq and Afghanistan. The modification in the position will be done by November.

Donald Trump is making good on his campaign promise to get American out of “endless wars”. On one of the visits to Iraq, Frank McKenzie said –

“the reduction in Iraq-from about 5,200 troops to about 3,000”.

 

This decision reflects on Trump’s administration’s confidence. Certainly, the Iraqi security force is now capable of handling the militant threats.

 

Moreover, McKenzie said soldiers’ troop levels in Afghanistan would drop to 4,500. The change in the number of troops would be done by November. Marine Gen made this statement over a telephone call with reporters.

“We’re on a glide slope to be at 4,500”.

He said. The path to downsize would be determined by military ability to get equipment of the country in parts.

“At 4,500 we’re still going to be able to accomplish the core task that we want to accomplish,” he added.

“And we’ve shown more than ample goodwill and out willingness to demonstrate that we don’t want to be an occupying force in this country. But we do have the strategic interest, vital interest. It compels us to be certain that these entities.” Adding “Al-Qaida and ISIS, can’t be guests there to attack the United States.”

The U.S reduced its number of troops in Afghanistan to 8,600 back in June. There is no specific date for reaching the 4,500 level.

Furthermore, Donald Trump faces criticism for purportedly denigrating American war dead as “loser” and “suckers”. Although he clearly denied the allegation. Trump is on a row to make the case that he fulfilled the promises he made to people four years ago.
