“We have decided to separate after many deep and difficult conversations,” Justin Trudeau posted on Instagram.

With “deep love and respect for each other and for everything we have built and will continue to build,” the couple wrote on Instagram.

“They remain a close family,” the statement read. Both parents will be actively involved in their children’s life, and the public in Canada could expect to see the entire family together. Beginning next week, the whole family will be together on vacation.

For the “well-being of our children,” they requested privacy from the general public.

The Prime Minister’s Office said Wednesday that the pair had signed a legal separation agreement.

“They have worked to make sure that all legal and moral steps have been taken in relation to their decision to split up, and they will continue to do so in the future.

Where and How They Met Justin Trudeau

Trudeau’s official biography claims that on his way back to Montréal after a trip to Europe in 2002, Justin met the woman who would later become his wife, Sophie Grégoire. They got hitched in 2005 and now have children Xavier, Ella-Grace, and Hadrien as a family.

It is said that Grégoire Trudeau has a degree in communications from the University of Montréal on the Liberal Party site for him. He began working in advertising and sales, and then made a switch to broadcast journalism.

Last year, on the occasion of his wedding anniversary, Grégoire Trudeau posted to Instagram that they had “navigated through sunny days, heavy storms, and everything in between, and it ain’t over.”

“Long-term relationships are difficult in many ways”, she continued. “They demand constant effort, flexibility, sacrifice, acceptance, dedication, patience, and a whole lot more. There is no such thing as a perfect relationship due to the fact that we are all imperfect. However, love only exists when it keeps you safe, liberates you, and helps you grow.”

In May, they went to London to see King Charles get crowned, and in March, they met with US Vice President Joe Biden.
