The huge three-row crossover market has more than doubled in size in the 15 years since Chevy traverse introduced the segment with its initial car. The Hyundai Palisade, Kia Telluride, and Volkswagen Atlas are just a handful of the newcomers, while a few models have grown in response to consumer demand. There have been two generations of Traverses in that period, with the current one appearing in 2017. The 2024 Chevrolet Traverse will debut early in the new year as a completely redesigned vehicle.
Chevrolet’s new Traverse was introduced at a ceremony at the company’s Lansing Delta Township Assembly plant in Michigan, just like the Buick Envoy. It’s safe to say that for the past decade, the vast majority of crossovers (of all sizes) have looked very similar to one another.
Redesigned with Larger Displays
However, in recent years we have seen certain automakers alter the visual presentation for certain models, transforming them to look more like cars or more like trucks, thereby making them resemble conventional SUVs. For this purpose, Ford produced the compact SUV Escape, as well as the new Bronco Sport. The 2017 Traverse, especially in its truckier Z71 model, is a clear step in the right direction.
The 2024 Traverse retains the crossover’s boxy shape, high-mounted LED running lights (with the main headlamps underneath), and squared-off grille. The 2024 model has a more athletic posture, a wider grille, and L-shaped LED tail lights like the 2024 Trax. Chevy told Car & Driver the 120.9-inch wheelbase is unchanged.
A new 17.7-inch touchscreen replaces the Traverse’s 7.0- and 8.0-inch units in the cabin. The Traverse’s volume and climate controls are still physical. The digital gauge cluster has an 11.0-inch screen, there are six USB ports, a WiFi hotspot, and you can charge your phone wirelessly. A pass-through under the center console provides extra storage.

Coming in early 2024
The 2024 Traverse will go on sale early next year. It will be made at GM’s plant in Lansing Delta Township, Michigan. We anticipate that prices will begin at $39,000, which is a little increase over the base price of the outgoing model when production begins. The RS is currently the most expensive model, although a high-end High Country variant may be introduced in the near future.
